Application for a Bachelor's degree programme without admission restriction
In general, in addition to your ID card and CV, you will need these documents for admission to a Bachelor's programme at the HSWT, which you must submit online with your application:
-
The higher education entrance qualification
You can prove this with a certificate that is valid in Bavaria, i.e. the:
- Subject-related higher education entrance qualification (certificate) or
- General higher education entrance qualification (certificate) or
- Advanced Technical College Entrance Qualification.
If you did not go to school in Bavaria, your higher education entrance qualification is valid if it contains a note stating that the certificate entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences in all federal states by decision of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs. In case of doubt, please contact our general course guidance.
-
Proof of vocational qualification
You can also start studying if you have successfully completed
- a master craftsman's examination or
- a further training examination equivalent to a master craftsman's examination.
- a degree from a public and state-recognised technical school or academy.
- you have completed at least two years of vocational qualification and have worked for at least three years in a field related to the intended degree programme. Then you first start with a trial course.
It is important that you attend a counselling interview with the subject advisory service of your chosen degree programme and enclose the certificate of the interview with your application documents.
Then please submit a curriculum vitae in table form with your application.
-
Proof of the preliminary work placement
For the degree programmes Landscape Architecture, Landscape Construction and Management, and Agriculture Triesdorf you need a preliminary work placement.
You can find more information in our info sheet.
-
Additional documents for international applicants
If you have acquired your higher education entrance qualification or your first degree abroad, you will find information on further necessary documents on the page for international applicants.
-
Application for credit for applications to a higher semester
Admission for higher semesters can only take place in September / March. Therefore, it makes sense to apply for the first semester and to submit an application for credit immediately after the start of your studies. In this way, you will be placed in the appropriate semester according to your performance and thus achieve the desired progress in your studies. More information on requirements can be found in the information sheet on the recognition of academic achievements.
Application documents & requirements for admission-restricted degree programmes
These degree programmes at the Weihenstephan Campus and at the Triesdorf Campus are subject to a separate admission procedure:
If you have applied for a restricted-admission degree programme and an open-admission degree programme at the same time and you have already received an offer of admission for the open-admission degree programme, you can enrol for it now. It is better to wait until the admission procedure at hochschulstart.de has been completed (approx. mid-August) and only then enrol for the study place that has already been accepted. You are not taking any risks by doing this, your enrolment period will be extended in this case. You are 100% sure of a place on the open-admission degree programme!
-
Registration on hochschulstart.de
Before you can apply to HSWT, you have to register on the portal hochschulstart.de. For Bachelor's degree programmes with restricted admissions, the allocation of study places takes place via the allocation procedure of hochschulstart.de. The central allocation office distributes prospective students nationwide in a fair and transparent manner among the study places that are only available in limited numbers (Numerus Clausus / NC).
At hochschulstart.de you will receive your application ID (BIN) and your authentication number (BAN), which you must enter when applying to the HSWT.
Please note: You can apply for a maximum of 12 degree programmes from the entire range offered by the university of applied sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf as well as on the hochschulstart.de portal!
-
Application in the HSWT application portal
Submit the required documents to the HSWT application portal and include BIN and BAN. For degree programmes with restricted admissions, also upload a certificate of service (e.g. German Armed Forces, voluntary social year) if you have completed a period of service.
If you are applying for a second degree, please also submit a letter of motivation of no more than one page.
-
Coordination phase
The university of applied sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf conducts the admission procedure and sends the results to hochschulstart.de for the actual allocation of study places. You can view the status of your application and any offers of admission in your hochschulstart.de user account.
As soon as you have accepted an offer, you and your other applications are eliminated from the allocation process. Think carefully beforehand about which university place you would like to accept.
-
Allocation of remaining places / coordinated move-up
Within the coordinated advancement, free study places can still be allocated. You can only apply for these if you have not yet received admission or have not yet applied.
If you have received a rejection email from the coordination phase but would like to take part in the coordinated advancement process, click on the confirmation link (in the rejection email) for each study offer within 72 hours.
The ranking lists from the coordination phase will then be processed. As soon as an application falls within the admissible range of a ranking list, admission is granted immediately, regardless of prioritisation, and all other applications are eliminated from the process.
A coordinated move-up procedure has not taken place in recent years due to a lack of available places. This is unlikely to change for the time being.
-
Numerus Clausus
Threshold values after the conclusion of all backlog procedures (winter semester 2024/25)
After completion of the admissions procedure in the restricted-admission degree programmes, the situation in the winter semester 2024/25 was as follows, whereby not all applicants who fulfilled exactly one of the threshold values could be admitted here:

How does the selection process at HSWT work?
Valid for degree programmes with restricted admission.
1st procedural step:
Applicants who wanted to start their studies at an earlier point in time but were unable to do so due to a service obligation (early admissions) are admitted first.2nd procedural step:
Of the study places still available, the following are then allocated:- 2% for cases of exceptional hardship
- 4% for second degree applicants
- 5% for foreign nationals and stateless persons who do not have the same status as Germans. Foreign nationals and stateless persons who have a German higher education entrance qualification and nationals of other EU member states are considered equal to Germans.
- 3% for particularly qualified professionals in accordance with Art. 88 Abs. 5 and 6 BayHSchG who do not otherwise have a higher education entrance qualification
- 4% for applicants of a combined studies programme who wish to take up studies in a programme which is designed in such a way that a vocational qualification can be completed parallel to the studies.
3rd procedural step:
The remaining study places are awarded as follows:- 25% according to average grade,
- 10% according to waiting time and
- 65% according to the university selection quota (selection at the university of applied sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf according to average grade as with the qualification quota).
If places are allocated according to the average grade, a special quota is formed for applicants who have acquired their higher education entrance qualification (HZB) at a German Technical Secondary School. The share of the special quota in the study places corresponds to the share of applicants with a higher education entrance qualification acquired at a German Technical Secondary School in the total number of German or German-equivalent applicants in the relevant degree programme.

It is not possible - for whatever reason - to issue admission letters or pre-admissions earlier than this, neither for German nor for foreign applicants!
-
for applicants to degree programmes with restricted admissions
Admission letters for applications for NC subjects that run via hochschulstart.de are made available on the Hochschulstart portal as a PDF or - if selected - sent by e-mail.

-
for Master applicants
For Master's applications, you will receive an admission letter as a PDF via the application portal.
You can check the current status of the admission procedure at any time in the application portal. With the start of the online enrolment, admission letters will also be made available online in the application account.
It is not possible - for whatever reason - to issue admission notifications or pre-admissions earlier than this, neither for German nor for foreign applicants!
Enrolment at the HSWT: How to enrol with us.
Once you have been admitted, you must enrol by the deadline - you can find the end of the enrolment period on the application portal. You can also enrol in the online portal - you do not have to do this in person at the HSWT.
-
Certificate of enrolment
You can then print out a provisional enrolment certificate yourself.
In the application portal, you can also see if any documents are missing. After enrolment, i.e. after acceptance of the place offer, your status in the applicant account no longer changes!
We then require the following documents by post for your final enrolment:
- Certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification
- Curriculum vitae
- Copy of your identity card
Furthermore, we need the electronic notification of your health insurance status (M10). The HSWT company number for this is: H0001685.
-
Online enrolment
To enrol online, click on the button "Request for enrolment" in your applicant portal after logging in and fill in the pages that are then displayed.
-
Additional information on admission-restricted degree programmes
If you like the admission offer you received on hochschulstart.de, you must click on "accept" and then apply for enrolment in the HSWT applicant portal. You should take these instructions into account:
- Please note that the enrolment button on the application portal is only visible once you have checked and accepted the admission offer via the Hochschulstart website.
- You do not have to accept the first admission offer on hochschulstart.de, but can wait to see if you receive acceptances for other degree programmes.
- If you have selected more than one restricted-admission programme, it is important that you prioritise, i.e. place your preferred programme in first place. If you receive several offers of admission without having prioritised beforehand, the application received first (online) will be set as your priority 1 and finally converted into an admission.
After the acceptance of the admission offer on hochschulstart.de, you will then enrol in the HSWT application portal and receive a provisional enrolment certificate.
Frequently asked questions about the application
Not everything clear yet? Maybe you will find answers to your questions here. If not, feel free to contact us.
Questions about documents:
-
I have several higher education entrance qualifications: Which applies?
If you have acquired several higher education entrance qualifications, e.g. the Advanced Technical College Entrance Qualification (FHR) and the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) at the German Technical Secondary School, you can decide which certificate you attach to your application. If we have more than one higher education entrance qualification and you do not make a decision, the one you obtained first will apply.
-
What must the health insurance certificate look like?
You can find more details on this in the information sheet or in the leaflet under point 2 "Procedure".
In Germany, health insurance is compulsory for all students.
- If you are insured with a statutory health insurance fund
-
- you have to provide proof.
- To enrol, please contact your or a statutory health insurance company and send them our company number H0001685.
- Your insurance status will be sent directly to us online.
- If you have private health insurance or health insurance abroad
-
- you must present an exemption from a statutory health insurance.
- Please contact your or a statutory health insurance company for enrolment and provide them with our company number H0001685.
- Your insurance status will be sent to us directly online.
- If you have already reached the age of 30
-
- you are exempt from this obligation, but we require an insurance certificate confirming your exemption from insurance.
Questions about the application portal:
-
What does "Enrolment applied for" mean on my application portal page?
This status information shows you that you have completed your enrolment. You can now print out a provisional enrolment certificate. There will be no further status changes.
-
Where can I see my missing documents?
If documents are missing, you will see this in the portal window "Missing documents" or "Missing documents for the subject". Without the documents that are important for admission, such as the higher education entrance qualification for Bachelor's applications, your application cannot be conclusively reviewed.
Please submit the digital health insurance registration (M10) only after enrolment, but in good time before the start of your studies.
Proof of preliminary work placement (if required in a degree programme) is required before the start of studies.
Questions about admission:
-
I am abroad/on holiday etc. after applying, how can I keep up to date?
Ideally, you will also have internet access while abroad or on holiday. This will enable you to check the application status on the application portal or on hochschulstart.de. If this is not the case, ask someone you trust to do this for you. Since we cannot recognise who has acted, you must take responsibility for any mistakes made by the person you trust (e.g. missed enrolment deadline, enrolment for the "wrong" degree programme, etc.).
-
Can I withdraw my application for a degree programme?
If you are no longer interested in enrolment in a particular case, please withdraw your application in the applicant portal. Please do not pay the semester fee. Think carefully about this step, as you will lose your place at the university for good.
Matriculation questions:
-
According to the online application portal, do the required documents have to be submitted at the time of enrolment?
The pre-study internship certificate can be submitted at the latest before the start of the degree programme.
-
What can I do if I am prevented from attending on the enrolment date?
As this is an online enrolment, you can enrol from anywhere with an internet connection. If you do not have internet access during the period of online enrolment, a person you trust can take over enrolment at any time. Simply give them your access data (user name and password).
-
What is the exact address to which I have to send my documents?
